Developed by Frederic E. Mohs, MD in the 1930s, the Mohs Micrographic Surgical procedure has been refined and perfected
for more than half a century. The heart of the surgery, the color-coded mapping of excised specimens throughout their microscopic
examination – remains the definitive part of the process. This state-of-the-art treatment in which the formerly
trained physician serves as the surgeon, pathologist and reconstructive surgeon, relies on the accuracy of the microscope to see beyond
the visible disease and remove the entire tumor down to its roots leaving healthy tissue unharmed.
Highest cure rate of all treatments for skin cancer – up to 99 percent – even if other forms of treatment have failed.
Primarily used for basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers but can be used for less common skin tumors.
Indications for this procedure would be recurred tumors, scar tissue in the area of cancer, large cancers, rapidly growing
and those cancers in cosmetically sensitive areas (eyelids, nose, ears, lips and face/forehead).
Shown to be cost effective.
